Music has always been an important part of my life. I remember as
a young girl standing in front of the very large piece of furniture that was a
TV/Radio combo. I did not care about the TV, I was more interested in the
radio, spending a lot of time twirling the dial, listening to what was coming
out of the speaker. That is when my love affair with radio began.
There are so many memories thru my childhood, times listening to
my clock radio, or my transistor radio, hours spent playing my records (at that
time I had quite a collection of colored 45rpm gems). Marching around the
living room to the sound of my "march" record, singing along to the musicals my
mother loved, sitting with her at the piano singing children's songs. By
now I'll bet you see a pattern.
In the first grade I was so disappointed that I could not be in
the Christmas play, instead, I was chosen to sing in the choir (yes I sing
also). As the years went by I listened more and more, rock, classical,
folk, I was a sponge. When I was in the 8th grade I learned to play the
guitar, then came the folk era. Then at 16 the rock LP's entered my life.
Not long after I discovered WNEW-FM in New York City. Wow, my life changed
for the better, I was hooked. Every night I sat in the dark listening to
Allison Steele, the Night Bird and Jonathan Schwartz. They turned me on to
and ever expanding universe of music. All through my school years I was
singing, listening, playing and living music. Then came college and the
world of psychedelia opened...... (more to come)
